Overview
A sculptural ceramic vase from the 1970s in a warm amber glaze, formed as an abstract wishbone of two upright, triangular-mouthed stems of unequal height. A Space Age, almost futuristic object that doubles as a double bud vase.
Description
This vase captures the sculptural, forward-looking spirit of 1970s design.
Two vertical arms of unequal height rise from a rounded, U-shaped base, each ending in a triangular opening — a form that is at once geometric and organic. The ceramic is finished in a glossy amber-to-ochre glaze with a rich, mottled surface that shifts from honey to burnt orange. Openings at the top of each arm hold flowers or single stems, though it is just as striking empty, as pure sculpture. Seen from different angles it reads in turn as a "U", a "J" and a leaning, dynamic silhouette.
Design & Function
Conceived as a double bud vase, with an opening at the top of each stem, it works above all as a sculptural statement piece on a console, shelf, mantelpiece or sideboard. The unequal arms and triangular mouths give it a lively, Space Age energy, while the warm glaze makes it glow. Compact yet bold, it holds the eye from every side.
Materials & Aesthetic
Made of glazed ceramic in a warm, variegated amber-ochre, the piece embodies the Space Age aesthetic of the 1970s — clean, sculptural and futuristic — in the tradition of Italian art pottery of the period, where bold geometric forms met rich, hand-finished glazes. The mottled glaze gives the surface depth and a tactile, artisanal quality, and the colour changes beautifully with the light.
