Overview

Exceptionally rare Model 1984 writing desk designed by Giorgio Tura in collaboration with Nucci Valsecchi for Tura Milano in the 1970s, entirely covered in tobacco-brown and natural goatskin parchment.

Distinguished by its imposing architectural proportions and sophisticated two-tone composition, this remarkable desk represents an elegant expression of Italian decorative modernism and the exceptional craftsmanship associated with Tura Milano.

Description

The Model 1984 desk features a substantial rectangular tabletop supported by two broad vertical panels, creating a strong architectural silhouette.

The generously proportioned writing surface is characterized by two parallel bands of natural parchment that extend across the tabletop and continue vertically along the supporting sides, establishing a continuous decorative composition.

Beneath the top, four discreet drawers are integrated into the front apron, each featuring a circular brass keyhole escutcheon. Their understated design preserves the clean horizontal profile of the desk while providing practical storage.

The spacious opening between the two supporting panels offers ample legroom, making the piece suitable for use as an executive or writing desk.

Design & Function

The design combines the visual solidity of a monolithic structure with a remarkably simple construction.

Rather than relying on conventional legs, the two substantial side panels establish the desk's architectural character, while the uninterrupted tabletop emphasizes its horizontal proportions.

The integrated drawers provide convenient storage for documents and writing accessories without introducing unnecessary decorative elements.

Its generous working surface and commanding presence make it particularly appropriate for a private study, executive office, or sophisticated residential interior.

Materials & Aesthetic

The desk is entirely finished in lacquered goatskin parchment, combining deep tobacco-brown surfaces with contrasting bands of natural parchment.

The darker areas display distinctive organic markings and tonal variations, ranging from rich chocolate to warmer amber shades. The lighter sections introduce an elegant graphic contrast, emphasizing the geometry of the piece.

The polished lacquer enhances the depth and natural irregularities of the parchment, giving the surfaces a characteristic richness that changes subtly according to the surrounding light.

Small brass details provide a restrained metallic accent without distracting from the overall composition.
