Iconic and sculptural, these Sarapis model stools are among the most emblematic creations by Philippe Starck for Driade, produced in the 1980s. Designed with the unmistakable postmodern touch of the French designer, the stools combine geometric rigor and formal irony in a synthesis that challenges the conventions of traditional furniture.

Entirely made of anthracite grey lacquered metal, they feature an essential structure with a square perforated seat and four square-section legs. The distinctive detail is the curved half-moon backrest, a strong graphic gesture that breaks the orthogonality of the design while also serving as a support for the back.

The composition is completed by tubular chromed metal footrests mounted on the sides, adding an industrial note to the design.

Perfect for contemporary interiors, lofts, and contract spaces, these stools embody Starck’s radical and playful aesthetic, making them both functional and highly collectible.

NB. Only one set of 2 stools is available.

Philippe Starck, born in Paris in 1949, is one of the most influential and versatile designers of our time. The son of an aeronautical engineer, he developed from an early age a deep sensitivity to form, technique, and innovation. After studying at the prestigious École Nissim de Camondo, he began his career collaborating with Pierre Cardin, for whom he created furniture with futuristic lines. In the 1980s, he gained international recognition through projects that combined irony, functionality, and a break from traditional conventions. Starck revolutionized the concept of design by making it accessible and transversal, applying it to everyday objects such as citrus juicers, chairs, lamps, hotels, restaurants, yachts, and even toothbrushes. His strongly recognizable style blends high-tech and pop influences, minimalism and surrealism, with a constant provocative spirit and a democratic vision of design. He has collaborated with world-renowned companies such as Kartell, Alessi, Flos, Vitra, Cassina, and Driade, and is known for iconic projects such as the Louis Ghost chair, Juicy Salif, and the interiors of the Royalton Hotel in New York. His work is driven by a strong ethical approach to design and a continuous pursuit of sustainability, aiming to create useful, long-lasting objects capable of improving people’s lives. Philippe Starck is not only a designer, but a visionary who has reinvented the language of design in all its forms.

Driade is an Italian design company founded in 1968 in Fossadello di Caorso, in the province of Piacenza, by Enrico Astori, his sister Antonia Astori, and architect Adelaide Acerbi. From its inception, it has distinguished itself through a cultivated and experimental vision of furniture, positioning itself as an “aesthetic laboratory” open to cross-pollination between art, architecture, and industrial design. Driade’s catalog is eclectic, sophisticated, and unconventional, capable of blending different eras, styles, and languages while maintaining formal elegance and artisanal quality. The company has collaborated with some of the most important international designers, including Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, Patricia Urquiola, Konstantin Grcic, Tokujin Yoshioka, Alessandro Mendini, and many others, promoting a design culture that favors creativity and surprise over functionalist standardization. Among its most iconic pieces are Fabio Novembre’s Nemo armchair, storage collections designed by Antonia Astori, and postmodern furniture by Starck from the 1980s. Driade is also known for the theatrical quality of its displays and its strongly distinctive visual communication. Today, it is part of the ItalianCreationGroup and continues to represent a key reference in the international design scene, combining tradition and avant-garde in a cultivated, bold, and unmistakable aesthetic.
