Extraordinary engraved glass plate-sculpture, signed by Arnaldo Pomodoro, one of the most important figures in contemporary Italian art and sculpture.
The work features a flat, circular surface, enriched with geometric bas-reliefs and graphic signs typical of the artist’s language, in which abstract and symbolic forms intertwine in a radial composition of great visual strength.
The transparent glass, masterfully worked, alternates smooth and sandblasted surfaces, creating a striking interplay of light and shadow.
The artist’s engraved signature is clearly visible along the rim, and the piece was produced by Edizioni Ars D, Milan, an important publisher/engraver of artist multiples, active between the 1960s and 1980s. The company specialized in transforming artists’ ideas and sketches into art objects produced in limited editions, overseeing production, numbering, and presentation. Pomodoro collaborated with them to bring his sculpture into everyday life: the plates were created from original sketches, signed by the artist and made in “superior sonorous” glass, using techniques such as engraving and sandblasting.
This piece combines the material purity of glass with the complexity of Pomodoro’s sculptural mark, resulting not only in a refined decorative object but also in a tangible testament to his unmistakable style.

Arnaldo Pomodoro is one of the leading Italian sculptors of the 20th century, known for his innovative and symbolic approach to sculpture. His works are characterized by the use of rigorous geometric forms, such as spheres, cubes, and pyramids, often treated in a way that conceals more complex elements within them, such as fissures and engravings. This duality between exterior and interior, between smooth surface and the “excavated” core of the sculpture, is one of the defining features of his art, inviting the viewer to reflect on the dimensions of time, the invisible, and transformation.
Pomodoro maintained a close relationship with architecture and design, working in close contact with other designers and artists, including those operating in the field of industrial design. An example of this collaboration is his connection with Scarpa, a designer who, like Pomodoro, explored the interaction between art and everyday objects. In the context of design, Pomodoro did not limit himself to creating monumental sculptures, but also conceived objects such as boxes, tables, and other furnishings, combining his artistic vision with functional design. His work with Edizioni Ars D Milan, which produced design objects in limited editions, is a clear example of how Pomodoro explored this fusion between sculptural art and utilitarian objects, creating refined and unique pieces that fit within the landscape of contemporary design.
These collaborations demonstrate his versatility and his interest in taking sculpture beyond traditional boundaries, transforming it into furnishing elements and objects for everyday use, while always maintaining a strong symbolic and artistic component. His ability to interact with designers and architects allowed him to create works that not only enriched public spaces but also private interiors, establishing a dialogue between sculpture, design, and architecture.
