Extraordinary modular Stropiccio sofa by Luciano Frigerio, a true rarity of 1970s Italian design, published in Domus in 1975, perfectly embodying the visionary and sculptural spirit of Luciano Frigerio.
Composed of five large modular armchairs, entirely upholstered in original aqua-green suede of exceptional quality, the sofa captivates not only through the elegance of its materials but above all through its ability to create a true sculptural wave.
By joining the five elements, the seating line transforms into a fluid and continuous movement, a soft and scenographic wave that flows through space with lightness and strong personality.
The satin-finished brass bases, shaped to follow the undulating profile, add a precious and luminous accent, further enhancing the interplay of forms.
The modular system also allows the individual elements to be separated, creating independent lounge chairs, each with its own sculptural presence; however, it is in the wave composition that this sofa fully reveals its charm and uniqueness: a true statement piece capable of defining an entire interior on its own, ideal for contemporary living spaces, scenographic environments and high-end interiors.
The generous seat, enveloping cushions and the softness of the suede provide outstanding comfort, while the iconic silhouette published in Domus in 1975 elevates this model to a true collector’s item, extremely difficult to find today in such original condition.
Excellent vintage condition, with minimal signs of use consistent with age. Original suede upholstery intact and supple, brass bases perfectly preserved.

Luciano Frigerio, born in Desio in 1928, left a lasting mark on the world of design and furniture production, inheriting a family tradition of fine cabinetmaking. His early education, culminating in a diploma in accounting from Collegio Pio XI, was enriched by a deep passion for furniture design and musical composition.
The socio-economic context of Brianza in the 1960s offered significant entrepreneurial opportunities in the field of furniture craftsmanship, and Frigerio was quick to recognize their potential. His exposure to renowned workshops and encounters with influential figures such as Gio Ponti and Franco Albini inspired the transformation of the family business into an internationally oriented enterprise. In 1973, Frigerio was awarded the title of Commendatore della Repubblica Italiana in recognition of his dedication to fine cabinetmaking.
The defining element of his career emerged with the realization of his vision of furniture as a unique work of art. Supported by a team of skilled technicians, Frigerio created sculptural furniture in solid wood and cast bronze beds, offering a radical alternative to the industrial production of the time. These one-of-a-kind works embody artisanal excellence and the fusion of noble materials, positioning themselves as true works of art within the design landscape.
Collaborations with prominent Italian architects and designers, including Franco Albini, Sergio Asti and Paolo Portoghesi, further consolidated Frigerio’s standing in the design world. His belief that architects could design unique pieces for fine cabinetmaking shaped the philosophy of the company, characterized by the production of numbered and signed works, each one singular in nature. During the 1970s and 1990s, the company expanded its presence by opening ten showrooms in major Italian cities.
Recognition of his contributions culminated in 1989 with his appointment as Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Frigerio’s works are held in important galleries in Italy and abroad and have received awards at events such as the Salone Internazionale del Mobile Italiano and Abitare il Tempo.
Permanent exhibitions in Milan, including the Galleria del Sagrato and the Art Gallery on Via Montenapoleone, testify to Frigerio’s enduring presence at the heart of the Milanese art and design scene. His legacy lives on through exclusive works that celebrate the union of functionality, aesthetics and master craftsmanship, continuing to influence contemporary design as a benchmark of innovation and excellence.
